On June 29 and 30, in South Bend, Indiana, there shall be a significant
and even unprecedented occasion within the historical past of American Catholic
artwork: a brand new, full-length classical ballet manufacturing with a brand new
story, new music, new units and costumes, and nationally recognized
dancers – with a solid of about fifty. This fairytale ballet, titled
Raffaella, was commissioned by Duncan and Ruth Stroik in honor of
their daughter Raffaella Maria Stroik, a dancer with the St. Louis
Ballet who handed away tragically in 2018 on the age of 23.
Within the first section, Thomas Mirus interviews impresario Duncan
Stroik concerning the ballet as an entire and the method of placing
collectively such an enormous manufacturing. Within the second, he interviews
composer Michael Kurek and choreographer Claire Kretzschmar about
the collaboration between music and dance, and the distinction
between classical and fashionable ballet.
