Practically $20 million in cryptocurrencies has been reportedly drained out of U.S. government-linked wallets holding funds seized from the Bitfinex cryptocurrency trade hack.
What Occurred: About $14 million within the Aave USDC (AUSDC) stablecoin, $5.4 million in USD Coin USDC/USD, $1.1 million in Tether USDT/USD, and almost $450,000 in Ethereum ETH/USD had been “suspiciously” transferred to an unknown pockets, in line with on-chain analytics agency Arkham Intelligence.
After receiving the tokens, the pockets started promoting them for ETH, elevating issues about potential cash laundering.
“We consider the attacker has already begun laundering the proceeds by way of suspicious addresses linked to a cash laundering service,” Arkham stated.
