Not lengthy after her arrival, Chelsea Wolfe rigorously organized a handful of objects on the Desk in entrance of her — a dagger, a chalice, a pentacle and flower — all impressed by the Magician tarot card, which symbolizes new beginnings. But when there was a slight of hand carried out throughout her set, it was the way in which she stripped down her usually colossal sound to its barest, most intimate parts, revealing the profound magnificence inside.
“Whispers within the Echo Chamber,” a darkish and distorted rumination on intrusive ideas and the battle to let go, for instance, is extra fragile right here, with Wolfe’s breathtakingly lovely voice front-and-center. Whereas most of this Tiny Desk options materials from She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She — and the upcoming Unbound EP, its acoustic companion — Wolfe closes with “Flatlands,” which initially appeared on the 2012 album Unknown Rooms.
That is Wolfe’s second look on the Tiny Desk. Her first was in 2016, following the discharge of Abyss.
