Bambi Meets Godzilla: #38 on the Checklist of The 50 Biggest Cartoons of All Time (1969)

In 1994, Jerry Beck edited the guide, The 50 Niceest Automobiletoons: As Chooseed by 1,000 Animation Professionalfessionals, which challenged specialists to create a ranking of the most effective quick, cel animated automotivetoons ever made. To nobody’s surprise, the specialists selected 10 Warner Bros. animations crafted by Chuck Jones. Additionally they gave a nod to Fleischer Studios’ original Tremendousman automotivetoonDisney’s first animation with Mickey Mouse (1928’s “Steamboat Willie”), and the Donald Duck-starring WWII professionalpaganda movie,“Der Fuehrer’s Face.”

Sure, the massive animation studios (Warner Bros., Disney, and many others.) dominate the listing. However a couple of “indies” manage to squeak in there. Take for examinationple Winsor McCay’s seminal 1914 creation “Gertie the Dinosaur.” Or Bambi Meets Godzilla. A student movie created by Marv Newland in 1969, Bambi Meets Godzilla (above) runs solely 90 seconds. Of which, 48 seconds are devoted to the opening credits, and 27 seconds to the closing credits, leaving solely 12 seconds of “motion,” which is mostly nonethelessness. The timing is the enjoyableny.

The quick movie circulated within theaters throughout the U.S., proven earlier than display screenings of Philippe de Broca’s feature movie King of Hearts. Through the years the publicly-availready versions of Bambi Meets Godzilla grew to become worn and faded. So, in 2013, Coda Gardner professionalduced a frame-for-frame HD re-creation. You’ll be able to watch it under.
