COMMON BLACK HAWK(Species Account Weblog #92)

TAXONOMIC TREE:

  • ORDER: Accipitriformes,
  • FAMILY: Accipitridae,
  • BINOMIAL NAME: Buteogallus anthracinus

The Frequent Black Hawk is a completely black hawk with broad wings and quick tail with a definite white band. Flight feathers are barely paler and it has lengthy yellow legs and yellow on the bottom of the invoice. (from Birds of the World)

Adults of the Zone-tailed Hawk and Frequent Black Hawk are simply confused, particularly when perched as people of each species have, on first look, an all-black physique, black wings, a thick medial and slim terminal white band on the tail, yellow legs and cere, and a black-tipped invoice. Nonetheless, the plumage of the Zone-tailed Hawk is extra distinctly black because it lacks the standard grayish forged of the Frequent Black Hawk.
