Craig Newmark, the 71-year-old retired founding father of Craigslist, has 4 focus areas for philanthropy: army households and vets, cybersecurity, journalism, and pigeon rescue.
On Wednesday, he pledged $100 million to assist U.S. cybersecurity, bringing his whole giving and pledges to $400 million since 2015.

In keeping with the Wall Road Journal, Newmark has already dedicated over 20% of the $100 million pledge to organizations and tasks round cybersecurity. Newmark was value $1.3 billion in 2020 and pledged to present away nearly all his wealth to charitable causes in December 2022. He instructed the Journal that his giving was impressed by the Judaic idea of tikkun olam, Hebrew for “repairing the world.“
