Largest kingfisher in Americas with exceptionally monumental invoice and raucous calls. Blue-gray with shaggy crest, white collar, and rufous stomach. Female and male related, however be aware completely different breast sample: fully rufous on male, whereas feminine has blue-gray band bordered by white. Typically conspicuous, looking shallow water for fish from a distinguished perch and chattering noisily when disturbed. (from Birds of the World)

In Costa Rica we noticed Ringed Kingfishers at low to mid-elevations on the Tárcoles River, close to Sarapiquí and Arenal Volcano NP.
