NORAD described the actions of the Russian fighter as reckless, saying the Su-35 flew dangerously near a U.S. plane conducting a routine patrol throughout the Alaska Air Protection Identification Zone (ADIZ). Normal Gregory Guillot, Commander of NORAD, strongly criticized the actions of the Russian pilot. “On September 23, 2024, NORAD plane flew a protected and disciplined intercept of Russian navy plane within the Alaska ADIZ,” he mentioned. “The conduct of 1 Russian Su-35 was unsafe, unprofessional, and endangered all—not what you’d see in knowledgeable air power.”

The intercept was a part of routine NORAD operations, that are carried out to observe and monitor international navy exercise close to U.S. airspace. Nevertheless, the conduct of the Russian pilot was seen as a harmful deviation from normal practices. In response to NORAD, the proximity of the Su-35 to the U.S. jet created a hazardous scenario for each crews.

Lately, Russian plane have often flown close to U.S. airspace within the Arctic, prompting common intercepts by NORAD forces. Nevertheless, most earlier encounters have been described as skilled and uneventful.
