From the self-titled, posthumous album by the Scottish digital producer SOPHIE to the tough, grief-stricken synth sounds created by Alan Sparhawk on White Roses, My God, his first solo album following the dying of his spouse Mimi Parker, who was additionally his musical companion for many years within the nice band Low, tributes to family members misplaced and voices from the past abound.
Plus: The star-studded debut album from Toronto poet and songwriter Mustafa, an adventurous bluegrass album (emphasis on grass) by roots champ Billy Strings, reliably adventurous R&B from Bilal and one other posthumous launch, the ultimate launch from the beloved digital act Broadcast.
